World Leaders Debate Libya's Future

Article can be found here

I'm still seriously wondering why after all this talk from Obama in his campaign about reducing the War Efforts, we are now participating in a 3rd front.  Was Afghanistan and Iraq not enough?  Why is the United States the world police?  We are in a ridiculous amount of debt, and the president seems more than willing to reduce defense spending...well Mr. President, how do you propose to reduce defense spending when you keep sending your military into new wars?  I personally agree with Ron Paul's ideas of, well, isolationism.  It seems like a great plan for the time being, at least until we can get back on our feet.  We don't need to be in Iraq anymore, we don't need to be in Afghanistan anymore, and we sure as hell don't need to be in Libya.  Not to mention our bases in Japan and Germany, and pretty much everywhere else in the world that are just a giant money-sink for no real gain except for future war efforts.

  1. i think it's unfair that leaders of countries have the balls to control what other countries do. it's fucking ridiculous. the us is so overextended

  2. It really sucks being american right now. We invade a country and get accused of policing the world and being undue aggressors. But if don't go somewhere (ie. the first couple weeks of the Libya conflict before intervention) we are accused of ignoring a 'humanitarian crisis.'

  6. The whole world is a giant catch 22. Not much we can really do about it these days.

  7. we have 10,000 troops in South Korea too. but yea I agree, we need to turtle up in america, and fix our own problems first. If we dont we wont have enough resources to help the rest of the world.

  8. I think it's ridiculous that people keep blaming the U.S. when the real country sticking their nose all up in Libya's business is FRANCE, but I guess we just ignore that because it's easier to blame the U.S.

I will grant you that the U.S. has had a shitty track record dealing with other nations in the last half a century, but this initiative was not spear-headed by the U.S. Despite efforts to stay out of the conflict, the U.S. was in some ways bullied to becoming involved, but even that proved unsatisfactory from all sides of the issue, so there's no winning.

  9. XPS is totally right. Everyone bitches when we don't do something, everyone calls us evil when we do something. Frankly the Europeans are to blame on this one, Libya is right there for them, their problem created by their wars and their colonialism from years ago.

  12. I agree... what was Obama about when he spoke of reducing troops and ending wars? He actually sent more soldiers to the front and started a new war.

  13. I'm conflicted on the Libya front. While I know we don't need troops in another country, I also know people in Libya. And I know how bad it is over there. And the fact that they're not gonna be able to solve this themselves. I honestly dunno what we should do in situation.

  16. It's my opinion that we should maintain a defensive military, no more. We're talking about cutting basic benefits, highway maintenance and education while continuing to fund military bases all over the world and ridiculous wars.

  17. It's just America's ego trying to conquer the entire world by exerting pressure and force onto other countries. It's ridiculous and we need to spend the money we're using on foreign affairs instead to our economy.

  24. I also totally "like" how we are supporting rebels who are clearly connected with Al-Qaeda. I really hope it won't come to another occupation, especially since if there is any dictator out there who can do lots of harm to invaders, it's Qaddafi.

  25. America just plays world police because it's a superpower. Enough people disliking it won't have an effect until another war happens is my opinon.

  26. We can't help everyone, but does that mean we shouldn't help anyone?
