If you didn't catch it, the title is sarcasm. I know as well as anyone else does that the Republicans don't actually love Sharia Law. It's quite the opposite. They seem paranoid about it. I don't want Sharia Law near me just as much as the next guy...well maybe not as much as my neighbors here in Tennessee, but that's not the point. I've seen first hand the oldest forms of Sharia Law in existence today...the villages in Afghanistan still practice all the great things like stoning rape victims, etc. Whatever, let them live in their fucked up little stone age world.
In the article cited, the editor asks several Muslims, including family members, congressional officials, and even an Islamic interest group, whether or not they want Sharia Law here in the United States. All answers were met with laughter followed by a "no". Simply put, Sharia Law is for the extremist Muslim groups, and for the conservative Muslims who still live in the Stone Age in places like Afghanistan. There's not a big enough threat of Sharia Law in the United States to warrant passing legislation against it. In fact, it just makes us look racist.
What do you think?
I fully agree with your conclusion. It's really sad that in 2011 there are still religious fanatics that believe the Sharia Law is the right way to live by.

ReplyDeleteAgreed! Great post can't wait for more
ReplyDeletemaybe in the US its okay to not pass laws, but I've seen some ornery protesters with signs saying sharia will dominate the world. But for now I think it's more of a Extremist Muslim wet dream.

Republicans use Sharia Law and Islam in general as a scare tactic to distract Americans from the bigger picture. It's such a non-issue it's laughable.
